Configure Charged Amount Composite Meter Details

In Meter Details, you can configure a charged amount composite meter. A composite meter is a periodic meter with periods that close and can be a charge meter with the turnstile meter property.

About this task

Configure meter details in Edit Meter when creating or changing a meter template. For information about creating and changing meter templates, see the discussions about creating and changing meter templates. For a description of the Meter Details options, see the discussion about meter template properties.
Note: If you enter conflicting input values when defining your template, the associated template tabs are highlighted and an error displays for each set of conflicting input values. The error displays until the conflicts are resolved.

Procedure

  1. In Service Type, select the service associated with the meter. To have the meter track all services, select all.
  2. In Measured Quantity, select Charged Amount.
  3. (Required) Deselect Session Meter.
  4. Select Turnstile to increment by an amount of one (1) each time a charge or usage session occurs, regardless of the measured quantity.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Click the Periodic tab.
  7. In Periodic, select Periodic.
  8. Specify the period interval by doing one of the following:
    • To create an interval independent of the billing cycle, in Every, enter the length and select the period type from the list: Days, Weeks, Months, or Years. For example, to make the period span two weeks, enter 2 and select Weeks.
Note: Composite meter periodic cycles cannot be expressed in hours or minutes.
    • To align the interval with the bill cycle, select Align with Bill Cycle.
    • To align the interval with the purchased item cycle, select Align to Purchased Item Cycle.
  9. You can optionally set the period interval Cycle Start Type:
    • Midnight — The first interval starts at midnight. This is the default setting.
    • Absolute — The first interval starts at the time specified by the cycle time defined in the meter template. Enter the absolute start time in the format 00:00:00 (hours:minutes:seconds).
    • Purchase Time — For required G/L balances, the first interval starts at the PurchaseTime (without the date).
  10. Select the Cycle Offset Type if you selected Weeks, Months, or Years as the period type. Select from:
    • Purchase Time — Cycle offset is at purchase time.
    • Fixed Offset — Set an interval independent of the billing cycle. When selected, enter the Cycle Offset Value; the balance period starts at this value.
  11. (Required) In Window Size, enter a value for the sliding window size. For information about sliding window behavior, see the discussion about sliding windows for periodic balances and meters in MATRIXX Pricing and Rating.
  12. (Required) In Low Water Mark, enter a value for the low water mark.
  13. (Required) In High Water Mark, enter a value for the high water mark.
  14. Click Save.
  15. Click the Meter Details tab.
  16. (Required) Select Has Period Close to close the period after the configured amount of time has elapsed after the end of the period.
After a period closes, no updates are made to the meter. Any usage or charges that would update the meter after the period is closed are made to the current period.
The Aggregations tab displays. For information about adding aggregation fields and aggregation selectors, see the discussion about selecting aggregations.
  17. Select Has Daily Component if you are creating a composite meter with a daily component value for each day. When selected, sub-periods on a component meter are measured. This option is only available for periodic meters with Has Period Close selected.
  18. In Balance to Normalize, click Select Balance.
  19. In Balance Class, select the balance class. Meters that track a balance class are incremented when charges are applied to any balance instance of that class.
  20. In Use a balance option, specify whether to use a balance or a balance tag by doing one of the following:
    • To select a balance template, click Use Balance, and select the associated Balance.
    • To select a balance tag, click Use Balance Tag, and select the associated Balance Tag.
  21. Click Select.
  22. In Units, select the measurement unit the meter tracks. This unit can be different than the unit defined for the balance. For example, the balance unit can be megabytes and the meter unit can be bytes.
  23. Click Save.
Note: If you change any values in these fields, you must click Save.
